Ayra Starr Grammy Preparations and Jembaa Groove Announce New Album Release

Ayra Starr is 21 years old. At nineteen, she was signed by Mavin Records label boss and producer Don Jazzy and made her breakthrough with her self-titled debut EP in 2021. Her debut album “19 & Dangerous” followed in the same year. Three years later she was nominated in the same category, alongside fellow Nigerian musicians such as Burna Boy and the South African singer Tyla. Ayra Starr has already prepared for the Grammy evening, she said yesterday in an interview with the Nigerian radio station “Cool FM Nigeria”. The outfit has already been chosen. The running style to the stage is also already in mind, just in case. The speech is already there and is relatively long because this category, which honors African music, exists for the first time. The Grammys, the world’s most famous music award, are presented on Sunday night.

Jembaa Groove announce second album – new single “Dabia”

A mix of classic West African music with a jazzy underground sound – that’s what Jembaa Groove stands for. The Afro-jazz collective from Berlin is one of the most exciting acts in global pop today. Today they released their new relaxed and casual song “Dabia”, which combines Ghanaian highlife with contemporary jazz. Many of the band have studied jazz and are active in the Berlin jazz scene. “Dabia” is about fighting your way through. That’s the message of the song, says Ghanaian music great Eric Owusu, percussionist and singer of Jembaa Groove:

“‘Dabia’ is about hard work every day. Every day is hard work and exercise to cope with everything in life. But it’s also about the belief that if you want something, you have to give it your all. ” Eric Owusu

Eric Owusu and bassist and producer Yannick Nolting met in Berlin while they were at the playground with their children. The two musicians are the founders of Jembaa Groove. The band has been around since 2020. Two years later they released their debut album “Susuma” and also received a lot of international praise for their style. With the new single “Dabia” Jembaa Groove are now announcing the release of their new album. “Ye Ankasa I We Ourselves” is scheduled to be released on April 5th. To achieve this, they worked with Ghanaian highlife legends such as the musician, composer and producer Gyedu-Blay Ambolley and the multi-instrumentalist and producer Kwame Yebaoh. The latter can also be heard on the new song “Dabia” with drums and guitar. The collective is currently playing a few concerts in Brazil. Around the release of the album, a few performances are planned in Europe in the spring, including in Berlin, Dortmund and Cologne.
