Ayo Edebiri Apologizes for Past Insults Towards Jennifer Lopez on ‘Saturday Night Live’

In a surprising turn of events, Ayo Edebiri took the opportunity to address her past criticism of Jennifer Lopez’s singing abilities during her hosting gig on “Saturday Night Live.” The “Bear” star, alongside Lopez as the musical guest, appeared in a skit called “Why’d You Say It?” where game show contestants were asked to explain their questionable Instagram comments.

During the sketch, Edebiri acknowledged her previous insults towards Lopez and admitted that she was wrong. “It’s wrong to leave mean comments or post comments just for clout or run your mouth on a podcast and you don’t consider the impact because you’re 24 and stupid,” the comedian, now 28, confessed. She also expressed her commitment to being more thoughtful about what she posts online in the future.

This apology comes after Edebiri made disparaging remarks about Lopez’s career on the “Scam Goddess” podcast in 2020. At the time, the “Abbott Elementary” actress referred to Lopez’s career as “one long scam” and suggested that she used ghost singers to record her music. Edebiri claimed that Lopez believes she is singing on multiple tracks, but it is not actually her voice. She further criticized the singer by stating that write-ups of her songs would often mention that she didn’t have time to make it to the studio, implying that she wasn’t actively involved in the recording process.

Despite these past comments, it seems that Edebiri and Lopez have put their differences aside. In promos for their “SNL” episode, the two women appeared to be on good terms, exchanging compliments and expressing their excitement to work together. Lopez even praised Edebiri’s show, to which Edebiri responded with admiration for Lopez herself.

During the episode, Lopez served as the musical guest and performed two songs from her new album, “This Is Me… Now.” However, she encountered a minor on-air hair malfunction while performing “Can’t Get Enough” with Latto and Redman. In the midst of her performance, Lopez was seen pulling out an extension from her head, causing a momentary distraction. Nevertheless, she quickly recovered and returned to the stage in a stunning pink flower-adorned gown to sing the title track from her upcoming project.

All in all, Ayo Edebiri’s apology on “Saturday Night Live” showcased her growth and willingness to take responsibility for her past actions. It also highlighted the amicable relationship between Edebiri and Jennifer Lopez, who put their differences aside to deliver an entertaining episode of “SNL.” With Lopez’s new album on the horizon, fans can look forward to more incredible music from the multi-talented artist.
