Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte never got the chance in the French A national team. Therefore, he chose to switch to Spain’s ditto ahead of this summer’s European Championships. The opportunity for Spanish citizenship came from playing for Athletic Bilbao for five years.
Laporte has previously told how he tried to reach the national team captain Didier Deschamps – without getting an answer. That should be one of the reasons for the change.
Now Deschamps claims that what Laporte is saying is false.
– What he says makes me uncomfortable, it’s a lie. The only message I received from him was in October and it was about a specific thing that concerned an injury he received in September, says the league captain according to the Daily Mirror.
With the result in hand, Deschamps does not despair that he lost the City defender to Spain.
– He has not played for us. It could have happened, ten seconds would have been enough. He has always been on the list of players who have been called but there has been competition for places.
The midfielders in Framkrik’s European Championship squad were taken by Raphael Varane (Real Madrid), Presnel Kimpembe (PSG), Jules Koundé (Sevilla), Kurt Zouma (Chelsea) and Clément Lenglet (Barcelona). A fairly decent set, where also the new Bayern Munich player Dayou Upamecano was left out.
