Dutchman Aydin C. (44) has been found guilty by a Canadian jury of extortion, intimidation and possession and distribution of child pornography. Aydin has been on trial in recent weeks in the case of Amanda Todd (15), the Canadian student who took his own life in 2012 after being extorted by C. with nude photos that she had sent him.

A video on YouTube in which Todd explains how she was extorted by C. for years has now been viewed almost 15 million times. That video, and Todd’s suicide, sparked outrage worldwide and increased awareness of the dangers of sexual harassment and extortion of vulnerable young people via the Internet.

Dozens of girls

Aydin C. became already convicted in the Netherlands in 2018 to 10 years and eight months in prison for abusing dozens of girls and a number of men. He incited them to commit sexual acts in front of the camera, after which he blackmailed and extorted his victims. The Amanda Todd case was not included in this, because Canada wanted to try him for it itself. C. tried to prevent this, but the Supreme Court decided in 2017 that he to be extradited to Canada.

It is not known what punishment C. will receive in Canada, the penalty has yet to be determined.
