Axxon Seeks Temporary ‘Energy Allowance’ for Physiotherapists | inland

Axxon, the professional association for physiotherapists, advocates a temporary “energy supplement” to cope with rising energy prices. “The sharp price hikes this year are a major exogenous factor ensuring that physiotherapists – and other healthcare professionals – have experienced significant financial problems, which seriously threatens their livelihoods and quality of care,” he said. Axxon in a press release Wednesday.

Patients often have to partially undress for physiotherapy treatment, so a pleasant room temperature is essential for patient comfort in practice. This, in combination with sufficient ventilation in the context of the still present coronavirus, results in high heating costs for physiotherapists, the professional association argues.

Physiotherapists who have not signed the national agreement with health insurance companies can, upon clear communication to the patient on the matter, transfer this cost. This is only possible if the patient is not entitled to higher compensation, Axxon points out. Conventional physiotherapists do not have this option. In no case can they charge a supplement. But even official taxes are far from enough to cover these costs, Axxon says.

The professional association asks for a temporary ‘energy surcharge’, in a similar way to the RIZIV-INAMI prize for personal protective equipment. “Only in this way can accessibility to physiotherapy treatments for patients remain guaranteed and physiotherapists who opt for an agreement are no longer pushed to bankruptcy by rising energy prices”.
