Iran is ready for a direct attack on Israel, Israel’s intelligence services estimate, placing the strike even in the coming days.
Axios reporter Barak Ravid reports on how and when Iran will respond to the July 31 assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniya in Tehran. The murder is attributed to Israel, but it has not claimed responsibility.
Ravid cites two sources relevant to the issue.
As he clarifies, the latest assessment that has been formed in the last few hours in the Israeli intelligence community is that Iran has decided to attack directly. This can be done even before the August 15th hostage session.
The picture from Israeli intelligence is that international pressure on Iran is holding it back from launching a direct attack on Israel. However, in Tehran the situation is fluid and no definitive decisions have been made.
Ravid also points out that in recent days there has been a discussion between the Revolutionary Guards and the new Iranian president, Massoud Pezhezkian, and his people about the response to Haniya’s murder. Indeed, it appears that while the Revolutionary Guards were pushing for a more serious response than the April missile attack, the president’s advisers believed that a large-scale response should be avoided.
