Axiom Mission 3 Crew Set to Return to Earth on Saturday: NASA and SpaceX Announce Splashdown Off Florida Coast
After a successful mission in space, the crew of Axiom Mission 3, also known as Ax-3, is set to return to Earth on Saturday. NASA and SpaceX have announced that the SpaceX Dragon capsule will undock from the International Space Station (ISS) at 6:05 a.m. Saturday morning and splash down off the coast of Florida later that evening.
The crew, consisting of Walter Villadei of Italy as pilot and Michael López-Alegría of Spain as commander, along with mission specialists Marcus Wandt of Sweden and Alper Gezeravcı of Turkey, made history as the first all-European lineup to launch to the space station. They blasted off from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center on January 18.
During their 14-day stay at the ISS, the crewmembers conducted various research experiments. Their contributions to scientific exploration in space have been invaluable, and their dedication has been acknowledged by the astronauts onboard the space station.
As part of their return journey, the Dragon capsule will perform a series of departure burns to move away from the space station. It will then conduct multiple orbit-lowering maneuvers, jettison the trunk, and re-enter Earth’s atmosphere for splashdown off the coast of Florida approximately 13 hours later on the same day.

Looking ahead, NASA and SpaceX have another mission in the pipeline. Crew-8 is scheduled to launch to the International Space Station later this month, with a targeted launch date of no earlier than February 22.
