For several weeks, Axel Kahn has not hesitated to confide regularly on his incurable cancer, diagnosed in the spring of 2020. Terminally ill, the 76-year-old geneticist has decided to face the end of his life with dignity and optimism. And this despite the difficulties related to his condition. “Yesterday, my son and I had to decide on an exceptional strategy to put myself in a position to receive François Busnel’s La Grande Librairie team (the show will be broadcast on June 23 on France 5 – Editor’s note)“, he wrote recently on his blog.
Knowing that he was condemned, the hematologist by profession decided to no longer follow curative treatment. He now favors treatments that relieve him. “We could consider a specific treatment, intended to curb the disease, or it was pointless to try”, he told BFM TV, last May. “In the end, the examinations show that it is without interest, they will treat me, relieve me, but these measures will be to allow me to have the best possible comfort of life until she leaves me. “
“The goal is to live as pleasantly and usefully as possible”
In his last post, published on June 17, Axel Kahn confessed to enjoying his last moments with his family. “I have so few days, I have to sort out. And what I keep is beautiful, very beautiful”, he wrote. “The goal is to live as pleasantly and usefully as possible without disregarding an evil that we do not currently have the means to disturb., but whose tyranny I am determined to avoid. ” A gentler way to say goodbye to life.
