Axel has several thousand instagram followers

The Voice has never lacked touching moments. Viewers are easily charmed when the mentors’ emotions take over, and the hopeful participants who are on stage tell their stories.

Matoma is known to shed tears when something touches him. And this time it was Axel Frønes (31) who touched something extra on the mentors – something that turned out to be very personal.

Instagram with several thousand followers

Right after Norway closed down for the first time in March 2020, Frønes began posting poetry on Instagram, inspired by his own thoughts and feelings. His profile quickly became popular, and he now has 24,000 followers.

– It’s a bit overwhelming since everything went so fast. My poems and songs are everywhere on the internet, which feels a little strange – but also very nice, the 31-year-old tells TV 2.

Førnes’ poetry has also become two books, “Greetings Axel” and “Best regards Axel”, which were published in 2020 and 2021. Both have topped the bestseller lists for each of the years.

– It has gone far beyond my head, because that was not what was on my mind when I started publishing things. But it’s insanely fun, he continues.

Frønes has always been involved in music, and therefore signed up for The Voice. He has also long written his own songs, and therefore made a choice to do something few people do – sing his own song at a blind audition.

– I remember very little after I came out on stage, the nerves were so incredibly strong. But I remember Matoma turning around. Something that was very fun and felt completely insane.

– One of the finest Norwegian lyrics I have heard

Førnes says that even though it was daring to choose his own song, he was never in doubt that this was what he was going to do.

– It’s a personal song. But the reason I did it that way is because I know I can convey it and make it as real as possible, the 31-year-old explains.

– My songs are not vocal presentations, but rather focus on communicating the lyrics – so that I make them believe in my songs.

It was especially one of the mentors who felt very strongly about what Frønes conveyed in the lyrics – and that was Matoma.

– This is one of the finest Norwegian texts I have heard, was the feedback he received from the mentor.

Matoma explained that he recognized himself in the aspect that in today’s society there are many who are hard on themselves, and do not think they are good enough. He then opens up and says this is something he himself has known for a long time.

Therefore, he thought that the song by Frønes conveyed the idea that we are both good and beautiful enough, just the way we are.

– I remember well when he said that, Frønes says about Matoma’s feedback.

– I became speechless because he has felt so much of the same as I thought when I wrote the song. So it was good to get confirmation that I was able to meet where I wanted to meet, he continues.

A humble goal

Frønes says that the joy was great when Matoma was the mentor who turned around. It was him Frønes preferred to work with.

– I had high hopes. If there was anyone who should turn around, it was him, says the 31-year-old.

– Even though it was nerve-wracking to stand up there, and you can probably see in me that I’m nervous, I think it’s nice. Although it is terrible there and then, it is also human and nice, he elaborates.

Frønes can also say that he is very much looking forward to the song now being released so that those who like it can listen to it.

– This song is out from before, but now it gets a larger audience. This version will also be different, because I have a fantastic band. So I’m really looking forward to it, he explains.

The goal of the song is also no doubt.

– The only thing I hope for is that if I manage to meet a person with the song, then the goal has been reached, he concludes.
