The Liège correctional court began this Friday the trial of five young people who were the “godfathers and godmothers” of a student from Spades when he sank into a coma from which he never came out. According to the toxicologist, death could be the result of heavy alcohol consumption.

Axel Leroy, 21, died on November 2, 2018 following an alcoholic evening, “the sponsor rally”, consisting of stopping off in all the “Carré” cafes in Liège in order to drink one of their alcoholic specialties. The evening took place on the night of October 30 to 31, and was to be punctuated by stops in the toilets to allow the “blue” to vomit the alcohol ingested. After 10 to 13 stops in cafes, where he had consumed, among other things, absinthe flambée, Cointreau, vodka, tequila, gin and even a cocktail of five pure alcohols, the young man was no longer managed to vomit and his “godfathers”, who did not drink to surround him, had made him swallow salt water to help him. It had not worked, and on the road to bring him back to his hut where his girlfriend was waiting for him, he had collapsed on the sidewalk of Boulevard d’Avroy. When he arrived at the hospital, he was declared brain dead.
