Axel Daeseleire (52) knocks in tonight Axel enters at Hoge Dries care farm in Tongeren and hear a strong story.

Once he closes the door behind him, Daeseleire is given a tour of Lore, who has lived and worked on the farm for twenty years. Hoge Dries is not only a place where people with intellectual disabilities are supported, it is also a commercially operating farm. Daeseleire puts on his overalls himself to get his hands dirty and that’s how he meets Stijn. The 27-year-old young man works on the farm two half days a week and tells the impressive story behind his engagement. Stijn had a serious car accident and was in a coma for a month. Curiously, that accident saved his life. “I struggled with a heavy addiction to alcohol and drugs. It’s like I needed to be brought to a halt for a while, and then rearrange my life,” he says. (jdr)
