“Sit down for a moment, because I have to tell you something.” With that message, Axel Daeseleire turned to Christopher Gwynne (52), for the VTM program ‘Heir Wanted’. He told Christopher that the legacy of his great-aunt Esther Lambrechts – better known as La Esterella – was still open after ten years, and that he was the sole heir. It was a bit like the live version of the scam email we’ve all encountered in our spam folder: the one in which a distant uncle from Africa states in rickety English that he has a large inheritance to divide, with a small prepayment. Only difference: Christopher was quite sure it wasn’t a scam, because he did know his distant aunt. And he had already inherited something from ‘Aunt Esther’. “Her nose”, he laughs. “As a child I was often laughed at about it, but today I am proud of it.”
