LONDON – Former cyclist Bradley Wiggins spoke on the “Happy Place” podcast about the sexual abuse he experienced at the hands of a coach as a teenager. As he stated, he could not confide in anyone at that time.
“When I ended my cycling career at the age of 36, all the memories came back to me. For me, the biggest shame was that someone close to me did this to me. At 13, I couldn’t understand the abnormality. We are talking about minor incidents up to almost rape, ” Wiggins was quoted by the DPA agency.
He admitted that he plans to quit cycling for good
The 42-year-old winner of the 2012 Tour de France and Olympic time trial gold medalist that same year recently worked as a commentator for the Global Cycling Network.
However, he indicated that he was no longer interested in the sport, and at the same time admitted that he gave it his all. In addition to road cycling, he also participated in track cycling, winning three individual gold medals and two team medals, the last one at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Under five rings, he won seven valuable metals on the track.
