Chair of the Scholarship Committee, LSPA Professor Agita Ābele, points out that the concept of dual careers is becoming more and more recognizable among athletes, as evidenced by the record number of applications received this year. “It’s important that athletes who aim for high results feel supported and know that their results so far in competitions are being valued. It’s really hard to study and play sports at the same time, so I’m really happy and satisfied that we can give athletes l opportunity to achieve both their athletic and educational goals.”
LSFP President Einars Fogelis points out: “It is important that every athlete, at the same time as an athlete, continues on his path to higher education. This will ensure that he will develop professionally and, when his sporting career ends, will be able to live a quality life in the future.”
Rower Laine Rumpe, who is currently studying at the Latvian Academy of Sports Pedagogy as a rowing coach and sports manager, admits that ‘an athlete’s career won’t last forever, so it’s important to learn. Plus, the more you do , the more you can do.”
