This morning the Vitoria Local Government Board approved the award of the contract for the renovation of Nueva Fuera and Abrevadero streets, which will complete the interventions carried out in that area in recent years.
“After the reform of the Los Arquillos area, the creation of the Plaza de la Memoria and the Portal del Rey that is currently underway, we are going to transform Nueva Fuera and Abrevadero streets into more modern, friendly and pedestrian spaces”, explained the Councilor for Mobility and Public Space, Raimundo Ruiz de Escudero.
The Department of Mobility and Public Space has designed an intervention that has been awarded to the company Balgorza for the amount of 1,130,622.69 euros. The works will last six months. The works are financed by NextGenerationEU funds.
The reform provides for the expansion of pedestrian spaces through the redistribution of spaces (widening the sidewalks and making them equal in height and appearance with the rest of the road, as has been done in other streets), the aesthetic adaptation through the renovation of the pavement and the placement of new street furniture, as well as the installation of new tree wells and planters to make the streets greener and ‘narrow’ access by private vehicle.
In fact, at the entrances to both streets there are areas for staying with furniture (benches, chairs, vegetation) that will help to prevent these streets from being perceived as a place of traffic. These elements will force zig-zag circulation at those points and, in addition, parking spaces will be withdrawn. In the same way, all pre-existing facilities and networks will be renewed and new bike racks will be installed.
