The best dairy products have been awarded at the international food industry exhibition “Riga Food 2021”, the producers of which this year are JSC “Smiltenes piens”, JSC “Limbažu siers”, JSC “Tukuma piens”, JSC “Krāslavas piens” and JSC “Rīgas piena kombināts”, informs event organizers.
The competition took place in several categories – “Ripe cheeses”, “Sour cream / sour cream butter”, “New dairy product 2020/2021”, “Organic dairy product” and “Dairy product packaging”.
In the competition of organic dairy products, the 1st place and the gold medal of the international exhibition “Riga Food 2021” were awarded to “BIO Dutch cheese” (45%) produced by “Smiltenes piena”, whose master is Vita Puriņa. “Eco yogurt without additives” produced by “Tukuma piena” and its master Sandra Firleja received the second place and a silver medal, but the 3rd place and a bronze medal went to Talsu whole milk curd (9%) produced by JSC “Talsu piensaimnieka” and masters Dina Zazīte and Mārtiņš Raksa.
In the matured cheese competition, the 1st place was awarded to the “Limbažu Grande Duro” cheese matured for 12 months and produced by “Limbažu siers” and its master Arnis Magonis. The second place went to the matured Russian cheese produced by “Smiltenes piena” (50%) and the master Jelena Lagzdina, while the 3rd place went to the matured cheese “Pomodoro” produced by JSC “Cesvaines piena” and the master Sandra Jargane.
In the butter competition, the 1st place was awarded to “Sour Cream Butter” produced by “Krāslavas piena” and to the master Ainars Vecelis, the second place was given to the butter “Valmiera” produced by the food concern “Food Union” (“Rīgas piena kombināts”) (82%) and production manager Ilgvars Tamanis, but the 3rd place was won by “Tukuma piena” butter “Exporta” (82.5%) and master Linda Lietiņa.
In the new product group “Milk drinks” 1st place was awarded to cherry yoghurt produced by “Tukuma piena”, in the new product group “Sour milk products” 1st place was awarded to cottage cheese yoghurt cream with mango and peaches and master Firleja, new product “Siera BOOMbas” produced by “Smiltenes piena” and master Lagzdiņa won the 1st place in the group “Cheese”, but in the product group “Ice cream” – cream ice cream “Ekselence” produced by “Rīgas piena kombināts” with orange sauce in white chocolate and production manager Natalija Šakina .
In the dairy packaging competition, 1st place was awarded to “Tukuma piens” culinary skimmed milk curd “Baltais” packaging, 2nd place was won by JSC “Latgales piens” dairy product packaging series, but 3rd place was won by “Rīgas piena kombināts” piena “Rasēns Bubble Gum ” package.
The competition for dairy products and packaging produced in Latvia is organized by the cooperative society “Latvian Dairymen’s Central Union” in cooperation with the International Exhibition Company “BT1” and the Latvian Packaging Association. The competition is financially supported by the Ministry of Agriculture.
It has already been reported that this year 300 companies from a total of 15 countries, including from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Austria, Italy, Canada, Spain, Ukraine, will present goods and services at the exhibition. “Riga Food 2021” will feature joint stands of Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Italy, Spain and Ukraine. The products produced in Latvia can be seen and tasted together at the Latvian national stand and the fishing industry stand.
The exhibition will be open to visitors until September 11.
