The NDR documentary filmmakers Timo Großpietsch and Christian von Brockhausen receive the Erich Klabunde Prize 2021 for their film “Kontaktsperre”.
For their film, Christian von Brockhausen and Timo Großpietsch documented the first weeks of the Corona lockdown in Hamburg in spring 2020 with their camera – under strict security precautions, they portrayed a city in a state of emergency, people in their living rooms.
Jury: “Very intimate minutes of the first shutdown weeks”

According to the jury, the 30-minute NDR contribution succeeded in “taking snapshots from the private and work rooms of various protagonists across society as a very intimate record of the first shutdown weeks” – “a historically significant work”. This is “probably the only one of the numerous Corona contributions that will retain its importance as a witness beyond the daily news,” added Marina Friedt, chairwoman of the jury and the German Journalists’ Association (DJV) Hamburg. The film, for which Christoph Mestmacher was the editor, first ran on NDR television and can still be seen online. Timo Großpietsch has been honored with the award for the second time: in 2010 he received it for the NDR contribution “Der Schulleiter”.
NDR television program director Frank Beckmann congratulated the two documentary filmmakers on the award: “Showing what is is part of the journalistic claim of public service broadcasting. The award proves that Timo Großpietsch and Christian von Brockhausen document the reality in the challenging Corona situation -Pandemic succeeded in an exemplary manner. Congratulations! “
