The prize was awarded to Kairis for revealing historical and contemporary themes important for Latvian society in cinematic and theatrical works of high artistic level, highlighting in particular the latest feature film “January”, which caused international resonance, winning awards at international film festivals in New York, Warsaw and Rome.
The publishing house “Liels un mazs” received an award for high-value, socially active and internationally widely recognized performance in children’s book publishing, culminating in the prestigious International Bologna Children’s Book Market award received in 2022 in the category “Best Children’s Book Publisher in Europe”.
The Latvian Radio Choir has been awarded the “Award for Excellence in Culture” for its outstanding national and international performances, especially for the musical recordings made by the choir, as well as brilliant and highly professional concert performances in Europe and in the world, which has allowed the compositions of several Latvian composers to reach the international musical arena.
You can apply for the Excellence in Culture award if you have won an award in international professional evaluation and professional prestige competitions, festivals and other events in the field of culture, if the performance of Latvian artists or collectives, such as guest performances, concerts, exhibitions and other events, achieved wide resonance abroad, promoted Latvian prestige in the world and awareness of cultural value in Latvian society, as well as if the show attracted wide international attention and created resonance in the world, promoting cooperation and the interaction between Latvian and foreign cultural spaces.
The Ministry of Culture’s award – Excellence Award in Culture – was established in 2014.
