A new up and coming reggae ambassador is Awa Fall, born Awa Fall Mirone in 1996 in Bergamo, northern Italy. Her name is not pronounced like “to fall” in English, but like “Fall” in German. Because “Fall” is a surname from Senegal, her father’s homeland. But her aunt Valentina, who worked at the opera and motivated her to take piano lessons, introduced her to music. They toured all over Italy as a duo until Awa started her solo career when she was 18.
Reggae pulse and joy of experimentation
Her classical background still shines through in her songs, for example in the first bars of “Changes”, where she sings a gospel intro accompanied only by the piano.
