For the new season of the Silk Way rally marathon, the AvtoVAZ sports team presented a Niva with a 150-horsepower engine.

Lada Niva Sport T2, which is the name of the car, was equipped with a 1.8-liter 16-valve engine producing 150 hp. and maximum torque shifted to the 2000 rpm zone. Before this, the car was equipped with a 1.6 liter power unit.
The engineers also optimized the layout of the engine compartment, redesigned the engine intake system, and abandoned foreign shock absorbers in favor of Russian ones. In addition, it is noted that the SUV has become 6% lighter in order to increase specific power, improve the dynamics and cross-country ability of the Niva at the racing distance.
It is expected that some solutions tested on a racing car will be implemented in the civilian Lada Niva Sport. Let us remind you that this car is going to be released next year.

Niva Sport will differ from the regular version of the model by the presence of thresholds, a snorkel, additional lighting equipment, LED foglights, tires with “toothy” tread, and Powered by Lada Sport nameplates. The interior will be equipped with seats with developed lateral support, and the gearbox and transfer case levers will be changed.
The transfer gearbox will be standard, but with an electric locking center differential. A number of solutions will be borrowed from the Lada Niva Legend prototypes built by the Super-Auto company, including changes to the intake system and oil pan.
The car will be produced not on the main assembly line, but at the Lada Sport enterprise, which was involved in the development and production of Vesta Sport.
Regarding the Lada Niva Sport, the press service of AvtoVAZ previously reported the following: “The project is in the preparation stage, we are in no hurry and want to make a high-quality car that meets the needs of consumers and will retain its legendary reliability and cross-country ability.”
