Today, the most affordable AvtoVAZ car is the state-owned Lada Granta. The car went on sale in 2011 and by modern standards is very outdated. At the same time, it is the main driver of sales of the domestic auto giant, occupying a leading role in the company’s income.
But this will soon change, because VAZ is working on a new budget-class model, which will subsequently displace the Grant from the production line.
The AvtoVAZ company was owned by the Renault Group for a long time, which brought with it both disadvantages and advantages. For example, the domestic auto giant was repeatedly obliged to use “renault” platforms that had a technological advantage over domestic developments.
The same path was to be taken in the project of a certain B-class car, which it was later decided to call Lada Iskra.
With the departure of the French from Russia, AvtoVAZ was left alone with the foreign high-tech platform CMF-B, but did not abandon its use, but, on the contrary, decided to modify the “architecture” to accommodate its own components. Thus, if the project is completed, it should combine all the best between the domestic auto industry and the so-called “Western”.
Today, the closest new product from AvtoVAZ is being created as a “people’s” car, and for good reason, because by 2026-2027 it is the one that will replace the Lada Granta, which has held this title for more than 10 years.
There are not as many technical details about the Iskra as we would like, but it is known that the car will have several body types, including a sedan, station wagon and cross-station wagon.
Production of the 4-door is planned to begin at the end of 2024, and its sales will begin in the first quarter of 2025, after which cars in alternative body types will enter the production line.
It’s too early to talk about prices, but the new product should be cheaper than the Lada Vesta, the cost of which today (according to the RRP) starts at 1 million 239 thousand 900 rubles.
