The Volga Automobile Plant may soon partially return to the production of cars with 16-valve VAZ-21129 engines. Recall that this 106-horsepower engine was installed on the Largus and Vesta models. According to “Avtograd Novy” at the end of July, about 600 of these engines were assembled at the Tolyatti plant, and some of them will be installed in the last batch of 240 Vesta NG cars.
Speaking of Vesta, we note that earlier the same source reported that the Izhevsk Automobile Plant managed to find components for assembly. According to preliminary data, after the release of this batch of 240 cars, Vesta production will be transferred to Tolyatti to resume in 2023. But now in Tolyatti they make only 8-valve VAZ-11182 engines, which are installed on more the Granta small model.
The VAZ-11182 is almost completely localized, which is why its production started so quickly after the plant had stopped work in the spring. But the 16-valve VAZ-21129 uses Federal Mogul parts, Siemens Deka injectors and Bosch sensors. Perhaps it is in connection with this that for now we are only talking about the production of a limited batch of 600 engines.
