According to Interfax, the AvtoVAZ Izhevsk plant today launched production of a pilot batch of e-Largus electric vehicles. On Friday, the president of AvtoVAZ JSC Maxim Sokolov and the head of Udmurtia Alexander Brechalov visited the production site on a working visit.
«We are launching the first experimental batch of Lada e-Largus cars – as promised, before the end of 2023. Today six cars will roll off the assembly line, and the pilot batch will consist of 30 units in total.“Sokolov explained to journalists at the enterprise. The start of serial production of Lada e-Largus is scheduled for the second quarter of 2024, simultaneously with the resumption of production of gasoline Lada Largus with internal combustion engines.
According to the manufacturer’s plans, the Lada e-Largus family of electric vehicles will include both passenger and commercial station wagons with batteries of different capacities and different load capacities. The electric vehicles will be equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor with a rated power of 50 kW, capable of briefly reaching a power of 120 kW at peak loads. As for batteries, the cars are equipped with two traction lithium-ion batteries. They will be placed in the engine compartment of the electric vehicle and under the floor of the body – in the place where the gas tank was located in a regular Lada Largus car.
The Autonomous Energy Systems (SAE) company, part of the Itelma group of companies, is responsible for the development of the electric power plant for e-Largus. Traction batteries from the SAE are designed and manufactured in Russia, the control system is also Russian. The manufacturer plans to localize the last imported element – the battery cell – in the next two years.
«The volume that is planned to be produced for Largus cars with internal combustion engines is currently still being approved by the board of directors, whose meeting will be held before the end of this year. But our proposal is about 30 thousand cars, both with internal combustion engines and electric (plan for 2024). The volume of production of electric vehicles directly will depend directly on support measures, which within the next year will apply either only to highly localized products with an electric power plant, or to the entire list of products, including those from foreign countries“, Sokolov said at the end of the presentation.
