«AvtoVAZ”is negotiating with the Chinese corporation Dongfeng to localize the production of cars of this brand at the Lada Izhevsk plant. This was reported to Vedomosti by two sources close to the parties to the negotiations.
Dongfeng was the first to announce that the new production partner of the AvtoVAZ site in Izhevsk was announced on July 10 by the Autopotok Telegram channel. According to him, the assembly of Chinese cars at the Lada Izhevsk plant may begin at the end of 2023.
The possible timing of the launch of the production of Dongfeng machines at this site is unknown to Vedomosti sources. One of the interlocutors says that negotiations between the parties started at the beginning of this year. Another suggests that Chinese cars coming off the assembly line in Izhevsk may receive the Lada nameplate, by analogy with the products of the Lada St. Petersburg plant (the former site of the Japanese Nissan that left Russia). There, in June 2023, they launched the assembly of Chinese FAW Bestune T77 crossovers under the Lada brand.
