AVROROS: enough confidence to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest

List of countries that played in the final in May

NOS newstoday, 2:51 p.m

According to the broadcaster AVROROS, artists can safely participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in Switzerland next year. “We have enough courage to start the adventure again,” said Taco Zimmerman, general manager of AVROROS.

Already the disqualification by Joost Klein at the last edition, broadcaster AVROROS said that everything had to change at the Eurovision Song Contest. According to AVROROS, there will be more peace and quiet for the artists in the upcoming edition. From now on they will no longer be filmed off the stage. That was one of the broadcaster’s requests. That is partly why the Netherlands will be participating again next year.

“In the last few months we have been consulting frequently with the EBU to make sure things go better next time,” Zimmerman said. This included several guarantees, he said. ‘ definition, such as one safety manager and fewer cameras backstage. He also has every confidence in the new Eurovision Song Contest director Martin Green. Britons need to keep an eye on the changes that have been announced.

According to Zimmerman, there was no need to stop the Eurovision Song Contest for a year. The Dutch public should not have to suffer from the disagreement between AVROROS and the EBU, he believes. “If we at AVROROS have enough warrants, I think you should participate.”

AVROTRO previously said they would like to hear “sorry” from the EBU, but that did not happen. “I think that’s something you shouldn’t ask for,” Zimmerman says now. “At some point you have to move on. Of course, we discussed this with Joost as well. That’s why the decision was: we’ll do it again.”

Zimmerman still believes Klein’s disqualification is “unfair.” “Our opinion has not changed.”

Brave decision

Joost Klein announced yesterday that he… not participating at the Eurovision Song Contest.

“He wanted to get on that stage again and we gave him that,” Zimmerman said. “It ultimately led to his decision this week not to do that. I think that is very encouraging, but it means that we are now open to a new song again.”

Some haste is required. “The lines will be open for the next four weeks. Artists can submit their songs until 22 November. There is so much talent in the Netherlands. I am confident that there will be a very beautiful song. it’s going to come out.”

Although Joost Klein was not allowed to participate in the final, his song became Europapa beat in several European countries. Below is his performance in the semi-final on May 9:

On the talk show Eva Yesterday Klein said it was a “difficult choice”. “We were very optimistic and thought about it for months, but we also thought: maybe last year’s magic is magic,” he said.

“Perhaps not much has changed at the EBU and it is also a very difficult process. We worked every day around the Eurovision Song Contest for six months.”

However, there was already a song “and everything was already there ready“, said artistic manager Gover Meit. “I think I would regret doing it more than not doing it.” Klein said that he was still affected by his disqualification.
