Avowed was actually one of the first Xbox Series X games to be announced, but for a long time the only content we saw from it was a brief trailer with no gameplay.Back in June, we finally got our first official look, following last month’s Xbox Developer Direct we saw a lengthy demo that included a lot of gameplay.
Since then, we’ve received a ton of new information, as Obsidian Entertainment now seems more willing to tell us about Avowed ahead of its planned release later this year.Accepting IGN During the interview, game director Carrie Patel took the opportunity to tell us a little bit about the adventure’s ending – or should we say ending: “ I mean this is an Obsidian game. Where would we be if we didn’t have a few different endings? “
She went on to explain that how you play the game and treat other characters will determine the outcome of your journey in Living Lands:
“You have to deal with it to a certain extent, both in terms of the propagation and placement of those consequences, but also in terms of the nature of those consequences. Some things need to have surprising but believable results. If everything goes exactly as you expect It may feel a little boring.
At the same time, not every mission needs to have apocalyptic consequences. Some do have a huge impact on the characters in the world around you, but sometimes the story you experience is just a very personal one for the characters involved. That’s okay too.
The idea is to make the story your own, something we know Obsidian Entertainment is very good at judging from their previous RPGs like Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity and even South Park: The Stick of Truth. Patel continued:
“I think the great thing about RPGs is that there’s a lot of room for spread in terms of tone, type, scope and nature of the content. So you’re giving players a big world where they can find a lot of very different experience, and these experiences add up to their experience as the protagonist of this game.
We still don’t have a release date for Avowed, but it seems to be a fun RPG with some fresh ideas, including combat that lets you use weapons and magic at the same time, as well as the ability to quickly switch gear with the press of a button. Avowed will be released on PC and Xbox this year and will be included in Game Pass.
