Developer Obsidian has revealed that there will be at least ten different endings in their release, Avowed, and whichever one you get “really.” [være] the sum of your choices throughout the game.”
Director Carrie Patel said, “We have a double-digit number of endings, and you can end up with a lot of different combinations of them.”
The aforementioned ending images, in traditional RPG fashion, appear to refer to still images with captions showing the fate of the final player and key NPCs/based reactions the choices made in a particular play, so it makes sense that there would be many of them.
What I find interesting is the mention of different combinations – the premise that the same overall player character can be achieved with different NPC endings seems to imply a reasonable degree of overall freedom, which is great for any ambitious RPG.
Avowed takes place in the world of Eora, the same fictional world in which Pillars of Eternity takes place, and is confirmed to be as long as The Outer Worlds.
Avowed will be released for Xbox on February 18, 2025 (and you can see the full interview with IGN for her).
