Avoid the following diseases if you don’t want to have heart problems

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The World Health Organization (WHO) calls related diseases heart is the leading cause of death globally. An estimated 17.9 million people died from cardiovascular disease in 2019, 85 percent of which were due to heart attacks and strokes.

Heart attacks and cardiac arrest are some of the most common types of cardiovascular disease and are not only severe but can also be life-threatening. This refers to a blockage that forms within the arteries that stops blood flow to the heart. Without blood, the heart cannot get enough oxygen, causing damage to the heart muscle.

In recent times, many people, including the young, have become more susceptible to heart attacks which is of great concern. In addition to certain lifestyles, there are certain health conditions to watch out for and may add to the risk heart attacksuch as the following.

Hypertension
High blood pressure or hypertension is a condition that occurs when the force of blood against the walls of arteries and other blood vessels is too high, causing reduced blood flow and oxygen to the heart. This in turn forces the heart to work harder to pump blood around the body, which causes thickening of the left ventricle and can increase the chances of heart disease, such as heart attack, heart failure, and cardiac arrest. Usually, high blood pressure is defined above 140/90 and is considered severe if it exceeds 180/120. It is often known as the silent killer because it comes without symptoms.

Cholesterol
There are two types of blood cholesterol, LDL (bad) cholesterol and HDL (good) cholesterol. Bad cholesterol causes the buildup of plaque in the arteries, which is harmful to the heart. An increase in bad cholesterol in the arteries can narrow blood vessels, reducing blood flow to the heart, brain, kidneys, and other parts of the body. On the other hand, HDL or good cholesterol helps prevent various heart diseases.

Obesity
Being overweight is another condition that can increase your risk of heart attack and other cardiovascular diseases. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), obesity is linked to higher levels of bad cholesterol and triglycerides and lower levels of good cholesterol. Obesity can cause high blood pressure and diabetes heart disease. This suggests this condition can be at the root of many chronic health ailments. That is why people should maintain a healthy weight.

Diabetes
High blood sugar levels can damage, contract, and narrow arteries in the long run. This occurs because diabetes causes a buildup of sugar in the blood because the body cannot use all the sugar that is there because it blocks and damages the blood vessels that carry blood to and from the heart. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), the warning signs and symptoms of a heart attack include:

-Chest pain and discomfort
-Hard to breathe
-Pain and discomfort in the upper body, including one or both arms, back, neck, jaw, or abdomen.
– Cold sweat or dizziness

When these symptoms appear, immediately contact the nearest hospital.
