AVM: New laboratory versions for the FRITZ! Boxes 7490 and 7590

The German manufacturer AVM has released a new laboratory version of the FRITZ! OS for the 7590 and 7490 FRITZ! Boxes. The biggest innovation is likely to be the introduction of the WPA3 encryption standard. The new update on the FRITZ! Box 7590 also improves the stability of the VDSL, among other things. In addition, it could happen that connected devices did not have Internet access when setting up a VPN tunnel. With the new update, this is no longer the case. Unexpected restrictions on the accessibility of certain websites when the blacklist is activated are also a thing of the past.

Auto channel functions of AVM have been improved for WLAN. Likewise, the initial setup of the FRITZ! Box should no longer fail due to an existing access via WLAN. In addition, the stability of the connection between FRITZ! Repeaters and the FRITZ! Box has been improved. Caller ID management is now also available in the mobile view on Apple devices. There is also good news for all Smarthome users. Among other things, the smart home templates can be edited again.

Otherwise, various system errors were fixed, such as that the step of configuring the number and telephony device was missing in the setup wizard. It could also happen that an attempt to import a configuration file that was created with laboratory firmware could fail. Those who operate a NAS on their FRITZ! Box can look forward to the introduction of the SMBv2 / v3 network protocol.

The download of the new FRITZ! OS laboratory version and further information on the current update can be found here. A corresponding laboratory version for the FRITZ! Boxes 7590, 7490, 7530, 6591 Cable, 6590 Cable, 6490 Cable and the FRITZ! Repeater 3000, 2400, 1200 and 7850E can currently be downloaded from the manufacturer.
