November 4, 2023. Avispa Fukuoka will be facing the biggest challenge they have ever experienced in club history.
It’s the Levain Cup final, where they will face the powerful Urawa. It’s not just the players on the national pitch who will fight to reach the top on the Yumebutai. They are the staff who support the players, and the 12th warrior and supporter who laughed and cried with them through their strong and weak times. Mao Yoshida (20), a second-year student at Seinan Gakuin University and an Avispa fan who is a member of the student sports seminar sponsored by Nishi Sports Web OTTO!, wrote about the feelings of supporters as they prepare for the decisive battle of the century.
Hello readers. Eleven years ago, on August 26, 2012, I watched my first match against Avispa Fukuoka, then a J2 team. I was fascinated by the game-tying goal that I witnessed at that time, and I became an Avispa Fukuoka supporter. Now, I listen to love songs (Fukuoka cheering songs) every morning as I go to school. I have watched 18 games this season, including 4 away games.
Avispa has achieved good results this season, and the current team has a sense of unity with all players, staff, and supporters facing the same direction.
I felt a particularly strong sense of unity after the first two big losses.
The first one is October 8th. On this day, Avispa Fukuoka lost to Kawasaki Frontale 4-2 and was eliminated from the Emperor’s Cup. However, there were no boos from the supporters gathered at Todoroki Athletics Stadium (Kawasaki City), and they continued to sing the love song “LOVE FUKUOKA” even after the athletes were pulled up.
After that, they won the Levain Cup semi-final match against Nagoya with a total score of 2-0, clinching a place in the Levain Cup final.
The second match was the home match against Yokohama F. Marinos on October 28th. Although we lost 0-4, even after conceding our fourth goal just before the end of the game, the chants of “Avispa Ole” never stopped.
After the match, Tatsuki Nara, who came behind the goal, expressed his regret for the result of the match and said to the supporters, “Let’s unite for the Levain Cup final.” did. Despite the 4-0 defeat, the supporters continued to sing love songs to encourage the players.
In the past, in addition to booing, there were also words that were said to reduce the motivation of the players. I believe that this sense of unity has increased the team’s momentum and allowed us to fully demonstrate our abilities on a big stage that we have never experienced before.
Finals on November 4th. I think the players are preparing well for victory. Although we are unable to provide detailed information, the supporters are also busy preparing to fight together for the final.
With this sense of unity, Avispa Fukuoka will enter the Levain Cup final on November 4th, with the aim of winning the club’s first championship in history. Dear supporters, it doesn’t matter where you fight. For the supporters competing at the national championships, let’s help Avispa Fukuoka win and return to Hakata for those who can’t come. Supporters fighting in front of the TV, wherever they are, let’s sing.
