Traditionally, the FC Groningen Academy will be looking for the Leonardo Hotels Fighter of the Year this season. An honorary title for the player from the Academy who has distinguished himself on and off the field. Avishay Lachman is the first of a total of five players to be nominated for the title of Leonardo Hotels Warrior of the Year 2025.
Five times a season, trainers, coaches and managers can nominate a player who they believe qualifies for the title of Leonardo Hotels Warrior of the Year. After mutual consultation, one player is actually nominated each time. To be nominated, the staff must see behavior in players that fits the core values of the training: tackling, being realistic and growing.
A player who wants to get the best out of himself every day, fights for the best result and puts a lot of energy into what he does. Someone who takes initiative, both inside and outside the lines, and makes no excuses. A down-to-earth and sincere person.
Lachman, the 14-year-old central defender of FC Groningen under-17, is the first of five nominees. “I am of course very happy with this recognition,” says Lachman. “I have worked hard in recent months to participate in the Under-17s and adapted to the level as best as possible. I have been able to develop well and see this nomination as a reward.”
The nomination for Leonardo Hotels Warrior of the Year 2025 gives the defender who entered the training in 2022 from HFC’15 from Hoogkerk an extra incentive to work hard. “I have to learn to be an even more aggressive defender, get better on the ball and become physically stronger. My goal is of course to get the first one. I will continue to work hard every day to get the best out of myself.”
Sven Bouland was named Leonardo Hotels Warrior of the Year last season. Previous winners include; Thom van Bergen, Thijmen Blokzijl, Bjorn Meijer, Ludovit Reis and Tom van de Looi.
