(The online newspaper): Very many Norwegians eat tacos for dinner on the weekends, and if you are one of them, you should see how big the price differences are from store to store.
NOK 84 separates the most expensive and cheapest shopping basket with typical taco products this week, where Enhver.no has collected the prices of 33 different items. Usually the price tests show that the discount chains are the cheapest, while the supermarkets are at the bottom. In both the first and second quarters of this year, Spar was the second most expensive chain in Enhver’s price test, with only Meny above it.
But this week everything is different.
– A juicy price gap on taco products sends Spar to the top. This is the first time they are the cheapest in the eight years we have tested food prices, says Tom Ystaas, price manager at Enhver.no.

He is very surprised by the result, which is due to the fact that Spar is currently running a campaign on tacos.
– This came completely out of the blue. Save gravel Kiwi by 1.8 percent, says Ystaas.
– Sensational
Kiwi and Rema, which are usually in first or second place, have been pushed down to second and third place respectively. Extra therefore ends up off the podium this week. While it is surprising enough to see a supermarket pushing the discount chains away from the cheap throne, there is something else that is more startling.

– Spar has the highest price on as many as 12 of 33 items. This is probably the first time a weekly winner is the most expensive on one third of the items. It is sensational, says Ystaas.
In other words, it is not at the discount chains that you should make the shopping trip if there is a taco dinner this weekend, although if you have a Spar store near where you live.

– This shows that there is money to be made from shopping at both Spar, Meny and Obs when they have offers, says Ystaas.
However, he points out that it is rare that a supermarket is cheaper than a low-price chain. Menu has won once before, but it was not so surprising as there were only items from their ten kroner market in the shopping cart.
– Menu was more than an announced winner that week, while Spar tops this.
– Want promotions customers like
The Spar chain has for many years had a 40 percent discount on taco items this weekend. This is now the end of it, says information adviser Hanne Evensen in Kjøpmannshuset, who represents Spar and Eurospar.
– But we regularly run campaigns on products we know our customers appreciate, and then it’s nice when it turns out as good as this, Evensen says.
Kristine Aakvaag Arvin, communications manager at Kiwi, answers the following to what she thinks about Spar being a lot cheaper than them this week:
– This week there were many taco products in the shopping cart. When a supermarket simultaneously runs weekly offers on tacos, it can quite exceptionally affect the result. Kiwi is the cheapest low-price chain and should have low prices every day, on all items, she says.

The online newspaper has also asked Coop what they think about Spar taking first place, and pushing Extra down from the podium.
– This is a test that is very unrepresentative of the price level between the various chains. It will be an expensive taco night for these supermarket customers. Extra is cheaper on almost all of the accessories such as cucumber, corn, sour cream and cheese, says communications manager Harald Kristiansen, and adds:
– Many customers probably also have the drawer filled with taco products already from last week’s Extra campaign.
Note that prices are constantly changing and may have been adjusted slightly after the price test was carried out.
