Avisa Nordland – Ikea opens new cheap store

This autumn, Ikea will open a new store – with Eskilstuna as the first in a row – where second-hand goods will be sold.

During the pandemic, many department stores have been closed, but now they are gradually opening.

– Due to covid-19, we have had fewer visits to our department stores compared to before the pandemic. On the other hand, we have worked hard to meet customer needs in other ways. Therefore, online shopping has largely compensated for the physical action, says Jonas Carlehed, sustainability manager at Ikea Sweden to Aftonbladet.

The company now focuses on used goods within its own brand.

According to Carlehed, this is part of the goal of taking more environmental responsibility through recycling by 2030.

Cheaper

The goal is, among other things, that all products should be made of renewable or recycled material.

Ikea’s forecasts show that the demand for used furniture will increase.

– It is central to us at Ikea to help customers extend the life of their products. It is a fantastic opportunity to test the interest in used furniture, says Carlehed to Aftonbladet.

The ReTuna store in Eskilstuna will sell Ikea products that have been returned and repaired.

– The products are significantly cheaper than in ordinary Ikea department stores, says the Ikea manager who promises that there will be more second-hand shops if the interest is great enough.
