World famous artists have performed on the walls of Avignon. This Monday, August 14, the ATIPICC Production collective organized a guided tour of these urban works. Entitled “Avignon head in the air”, this experience is a partnership with the Avignon Tourist Office.
9:45 a.m. The group of visitors meets in front of the Tourist Office. Among them, Raphaël came to rediscover his city with his family: “we were looking to see another facet of Avignon. I appreciate street art, but I don’t know it well in Avignon”.

Etienne Delfini guides the group. He is an actor and a member of the ATIPPIC Production collective, which highlights the heritage of Avignon. “I was very surprised by what I was able to learn during our research, on the number of artists there are in the city, on the number of works in front of which I passed without noticing” , he says*.*
Fabien Colin, co-author of the visit, notes the artistic richness of the streets of Avignon: “There are very well-known artists in street art, like Invader, who posed space invaders all over the city. We also have magnificent frescoes, a piece from each Festival, more or less”.
Learn to look up
Nadine, originally from Jonquières, wishes “discovering things that I don’t see when I look up”. However, this is precisely the goal of Etienne Delfini: “It’s really this message that we want to convey. To say that, all around us, there are a lot of works of art made by extremely interesting artists”.

The visit is embellished with interactions, role-playing, but also reflections on street art. Is this painted advertisement street art? What is the border between street art, degradation and illegality? How do “street-arters” make themselves known? At the end of the visit, Etienne Delfini even suggests a final activity: tagging the public space… with chalk!
Two “Avignon head in the air” visits took place on May 28 and August 14, 2023. The collective hopes to renew the initiative in the coming year.
