Avignon Festival | Vivaldi, the golden age: majestic walk in the Serenissima

Once again, Marianne Piketty draws the musical strength of her new show “Vivaldi, the golden age” in the classical violin tradition inherited from great masters such as Itzhak Perlman or Yehudi Menuhin and unearths forgotten heritages according to the philosophy of his company Le Concert Idéal, founded in 2013.

In this new project, the variable geometry ensemble performs unpublished compositions by Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741), whose scores have been found and completed by Olivier Fourrés, musicologist and musical advisor to the international soloist, who also performs the setting up and movement of this vibrant creation.

The music of Barbara Strozzi, Francesco Turini, Domenico Gallo, Claudio Monteverdi, Tomaso Albinoni and Vivaldi is explored from every angle with great finesse, similar to the lace of costumes.

After the success in 2019 of “Vivaldi Piazolla, Seasons: from shore to shore”, the troupe offers more than a concert, a walk in the Serenissima. The musicians of the octet (violins, cello, double bass and theorbo) go beyond virtuosity and pass on marvels.

Marianne Piketty, a graduate of the CNSM in Paris and the Juilliard School in New York, once again refreshes classical music and transmits her passion for baroque compositions which resonate with elegance and delicacy in the strings of the ensemble.

With her instrument, a real bodily extension, a Venetian violin by Carlo Tononi dated 1685, the demanding musician makes the works of this Venetian priest shine, who with his concertos turned European instrumental writing upside down.

The staging and the moving bodies are at the service of the music, the first role of this show. The quality of listening is increased tenfold by the care given to the lights created by Thomas Jacquemart.

A dancing, captivating, powerful moment, as light and airy as the swings of musicians’ wrists.

Sunflower Theater, 11:45 a.m., releases on Monday. Price: € 22 / € 15.5 / € 10. Reservations: 04 90 82 74 42. www.theatredugirasole.fr
