The Honduran flag airline Aviatsa announced that it is organizing a new route between San Pedro Sula, in the Central American country, and Havana, in Cuba, which will be carried out non-stop.
This new flight will be carried out in response to a market study that revealed a growing demand for travel between these two destinations, especially for educational and health purposes.
According to Félix Pacheco, representative of Aviatsa and current president of the Honduran Association of Airlines (AHLA), the route has already been planned, and only some pending permits need to be approved.
The route will take place every Monday and Thursday, departing from the ‘Ramón Villeda Morales’ International Airport. Likewise, the official revealed that there are plans to extend this service to Holguín if it has the expected success.
This new direct trip aims to facilitate the trip for residents of Honduras who wish to fly to the Greater Antilles without having to transit through Panama or the United States.
The strategy is especially important if we take into account that, before the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual flow of travelers between these two countries was around 10,000 passengers.
The upcoming inauguration of this flight is significant, since, at the moment, only airlines from Panama and Nicaragua offer direct flights to the Island from Central America.
The airline Aviatsa was founded on October 9, 2015, after obtaining an air operator certificate from the Aviation Authorities of the Central American country.
Its fleet consists of a Boeing 737-200, which has a capacity of 120 people, and the airline focuses on providing domestic service within Honduras, connecting the cities of Roatán and Tegucigalpa.
Initially, the company was dedicated exclusively to domestic flights, but over the years it expanded its destinations. For now, the airline maintains a single-class cabin configuration on its flights, organized in rows of 3×3 seats.
With the announcement of the new route, it is important to remember that Cuban citizens who wish to visit Honduras need a visa to do so, this despite the fact that the Honduran government, led by Xiomara Castro de Zelaya, is one of the allies closest to the Castro regime.
This procedure consists of appearing at the Honduran Consulate in Cuba to define what type of visa is the most appropriate. The diplomatic headquarters is located in the Santa Clara Building, First Floor, #123 Miramar Business Center, Third Avenue/ 78 and 80 Streets, Miramar, Playa, Havana.
