The Colombian airline Avianca received from the authorities the “Biosafety Check in” and “Biosafety Operations” seals for better management of the COVID-19 control system, the company reported on Monday 10-A.

These seals cover the criteria contemplated in the resolutions of the Colombian Government on biosafety protocols to mitigate, control and carry out the adequate management of the pandemic in the tourism sector, paralyzed since last March.

“It is very significant to see how Avianca, a company that has marked the history of the country, is betting on the reactivation of the tourism sector by obtaining the biosafety seal ‘Certified Check-in'”, said the Vice Minister of Tourism, Julián Guerrero, quoted it’s a statement.

The biosecurity seal was created by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, with the endorsement of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), and is valid for two years, while the “Safe Operations” is from the Colombian Institute of Technical Standards (Icontec).

Avianca stressed that it is “ready to fly again in Colombia and the other markets where it operates and hopes that, with the joint work that is being carried out between the governments, authorities, unions and airlines, air operations in the region will be reactivated very soon. “.

Avianca’s vice president of Network Operations, Julián Laverde, said that these certifications show that the company is “a safe airline” and reflect “the effort we have made from all areas to reinforce said protocols and be able to provide the necessary confidence to our clients and suppliers”.

International flights have been suspended in the country since last March 23 and the national ones were interrupted two days later, when the first cases of COVID-19 in Colombia were just beginning, which to date leaves 387,481 infected and 12,842 deaths.

Last June the government authorized airlines to sell flights as of September 1 and although there is still no specific date, it is expected that next month they will be able to operate again in Colombia, albeit with reduced frequencies.
