The highly pathogenic avian influenza virus which circulated from November 2021 to March 2022 in Belgium was the cause of 6 contaminations in professional and amateur holders.
These outbreaks and cases were detected in the municipalities of Alveringem (West Flanders), Ravels (West Flanders), Veurne (West Flanders), Bocholt (Limburg), Vrasene (East Flanders) and Meulebeke (West Flanders). In the areas around the outbreaks, additional measures have been imposed in order to prevent the spread of the virus.
Besides, 83 cases of this highly pathogenic virus have been discovered in wild birds in different places in Belgium since November 29, 2021, according to the FASFC.
