For those who want to start a business, the length of the process and the bureaucracy involved in opening a company are common questions. In Bahia, however, this average time is nine hours, the second fastest in the country behind only Sergipe, according to Redesim.
The Commercial Board of the State of Bahia (Juceb), responsible for opening, changing and closing local companies, explains that the time for the release of everything that depends on the body is even shorter: it takes thirty minutes to register the company.
This is because the first part of the process, when there is a need for further analysis, is carried out by the municipalities, and may have very different deadlines for completion. Municipalities are responsible for releasing the viability of economic activity and address for the new establishment.
“When it’s a low-risk activity, go straight. When it is not, the municipality carries out an investigation to release it, to see if that business can be opened, if that economic activity in that place is viable”, explains Marise Chastinet, who is president of Juceb.
After the analysis, the next step is the generation of the Basic Entry Document, or DBE, used for the company’s procedures. Only then does it reach Juceb, which quickly enters the application, if the process meets all the requirements requested in the request.
“If the businessman fills out everything correctly, he will go to trial. We have judges who will analyze the process, whether everything is in accordance with the legislation, whether all the documentation that the legislation requires has been completed. This is quick, half an hour. If is not in accordance with the legislation, this process returns and becomes a requirement. When it returns to the client, they have to comply with what they failed to comply with at the beginning and return to be judged again”, explains president Marise Chastinet.
