The average number of new corona cases per day has again fallen below 10,000. This is evident from figures from health institute Sciensano that were released on Sunday by the cabinet of federal Minister of Health Frank Vandenbroucke (Vooruit).

Between 10 and 16 December, an average of 9,402 new infections registered per day. That is a 33 percent decrease compared to the previous week.
During the same period, an average of 76,500 tests performed, with a positiviteitsratio of 14.02 percent.
From December 13 to 19, there were almost 196 hospital admissions per day due to Covid-19, also a significant decrease. On Sunday there were a total of 2,611 crownpatiënten in Belgian hospitals (-37 compared to Saturday), including 746 in the wards intensive care. That is a decrease of 20 patients compared to Saturday. For the first time since the end of November, the number of patients in intensive care falls below 750.
