In the week from 7 to 13 November, an average of 10,283 new corona infections per day were detected in Belgium. This is an increase of 27 percent compared to a week earlier. This is evident on Wednesday morning from data from the health institute Sciensano.

The number of hospital admissions also continues to show an upward trend. Between November 10 and 16, an average of 238.4 people a day were hospitalized with Covid-19. That is 21 percent more than a week earlier.
As a result, there are now 2,693 corona patients in Belgian hospitals (+25 percent), of whom 557 are in intensive care (+28 percent).
Furthermore, from 7 to 13 November, an average of 25.6 people died a day after being infected with the corona virus. That is also an increase compared to the previous week (+11 percent). The total death toll for Belgium now stands at 26,444.

A new record was set in Ghent last week for the number of positive corona tests in one day. On November 10, 285 Ghent residents tested positive, the highest number since the start of the pandemic.
This is also clearly visible in the positivity ratio. That is the number of residents of Ghent who take a test and also test positive. At the moment, more than one in ten inhabitants of Ghent also have a positive corona test.
