On average, there are almost 10,500 new infections in our country every day, and about 350 people are admitted to hospital. There are currently more than 3,500 covid patients in our hospitals.

Preliminary data on the online dashboard of the Sciensano health institute shows that an average of 10,453.6 new coronavirus infections were registered every day between 13 and 19 October. That is an increase of 69 percent compared to the seven days before. In total 270,132 people have already been infected with the virus.
At the moment 3,649 patients in Belgian hospitals are with covid-19 (+11 percent). Among them, 573 people are in intensive care (+9 percent). On average, nearly 350 people are admitted to hospital every day, an increase of 82 percent. Yesterday (Thursday, October 22) 496 covid patients were hospitalized.
The total number of covid deaths rose to 10,588. From 13 to 19 October, 35.4 people died from covid-19 every day (an average of 12.6 more than a week earlier).
An average of 61,100 tests are performed every day. The positivity ratio, the number of people who test positive in relation to the total number of tests, is now 16.6 percent. That number also continues to rise. The last known r-value, the number that indicates how many people a covid patient is infected, dates back to Wednesday, October 21. Then it was 1.45. That means that two covid patients together infect, on average, nearly three new people.
