The average number of coronavirus infections fell below the 15,000 per day limit on Saturday, for the first time since mid-November. This is apparent from the figures from health institute Sciensano, which the cabinet of Health Minister Frank Vandenbroucke (Vooruit) announced on Sunday.

From 2 to 8 December, the average number of corona infections in our country was 14,680 per day. That is a 17 percent decrease compared to the previous week. Moreover, the decline is accelerating.
In that week, almost 700,000 corona tests were performed, of which 116,006 tested positive: a positivity ratio of 16.6 percent.
The number of hospital admissions also continues to decline. Every day between 5 and 11 December, an average of 275 patients with the corona virus were admitted. There were 3,283 corona patients in Belgian hospitals on Saturday, 81 fewer than Friday.
There is still a slight increase in intensive care, on Saturday 2 Covid patients were added to 840 in total.
