The approximately 850-kilometer AvD-Histo-Tour starts next Wednesday at the Nürburgring, leading over two days through the Eifel and the Ardennes and including four racetracks. It starts on Wednesday afternoon with the check-in and the technical inspection of your classic rally car in the Eifel village of Grüne Hölle. At the start of the event organized by the Automobile Club of Germany, the Grand Prix circuit of the Nürburgring awaits the participants with the first regularity test (GLP) in the late afternoon. The time driven in the first lap must be repeated as exactly as possible in the subsequent laps.
One of the prominent starters is rally legend Walter Röhrl with his co-driver Rafael Diez, who will take part with a special Porsche 911. The “Röhrl x 911” Porsche from the 1970s, weighing just 975 kilograms, has a Group 4 body with an increased track width at the front and rear and 911 autographs from Walter Röhrl.
In addition to other Porsche 911s, including two Carrera 2.7 RS (1972 and 1973) and a 911 RSR (1971) from the Kremer racing team, the Zuffenhausen brand is also represented with vehicles from the 356, 914, 924 and 928 series. There are also cars from Alfa Romeo, BMW, Ford, Lancia, Mercedes, Saab and many other manufacturers.
The rally starts early Thursday morning on roads with little traffic in the Eifel. There are other time trials in which the drivers have to drive through specified sections of track at a specified average speed and with as little deviation as possible. The destination in Belgium, the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, is reached in the late afternoon. After another GLP on the “Ardennes roller coaster” we head to the provincial capital Hasselt.
After a short drive, the Circuit Zolder is on the program for Friday morning. Today, the former Formula 1 and DTM track is known for a highly acclaimed 24-hour race and Belcar series races. From Zolder it’s back to the Nürburgring. The highlight of the AvD event is the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring, which is available to participants for an hour for the last regularity evaluation.
