“Avatar,” whose 3-D effects have blown away critics and fans alike and helped the film gross $1.6 billion so far, directed by James Cameron (“Titanic”) won the prestigious Golden Globe Award for best motion picture, drama. Reuters reported. Cameron also received the award for best director.
“3-D is the future,” Cameron told reporters backstage. He added that “Avatar’s success gives other directors the opportunity to think about 3D cinema.”
As the best actor in a musical or comedy, Robert Downey Jr. was awarded for his role in “Sherlock Holmes”, the award for the best actress in the same category went to Meryl Streep for “Julie and Julia”. The best supporting actor award went to Christoph Waltz for Nasty Bastards and the best supporting actress award went to Monique for her role in Precious.
The Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama went to Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart, and Sandra Bullock took the award for Best Actress in a Drama for her role in The Blind Side.
Disney’s film “In the Sky” won two Golden Globe awards – for best animated film and for original screenplay.
The German production “The White Ribbon” was awarded for the best foreign language film.
Many of the movie stars wore yellow, blue and red ribbons to show their support for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.
