Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will put PS5 and Xbox Series Xconsoles on trial. This according to an interview that describes the latest technology used in the game.
In an interview with IGN, Nikolay Stefanov, Chief Technology Officer, explained why the PS4 and Xbox One consoles were not sufficient for the developer’s technical ambitions for Avatar. “The new consoles allow us to include much better object details near you, but also when you fly high in the air – to create beautiful views with rendering over long distances, where we can even use the beam tracking to create shadows super far away, say , three or four kilometers from you. “
When it comes to map design, Avatar’s creative director Magnus Jansén explained the differences between the previous and the new console generation and explained: “It’s not just that players get rid of that old” I walk around slowly for a while so that the new place can be fully loaded ” there are even small subtle things that players do not think about, such as how close all the places in the world are.
“With the old hard drives, the seats had to be located very far apart, because the console had to unload the old one and then load the new one. There are lots of such things.”

When you read through the interview, you get the feeling that Ubisoft Massive takes the current technology quite seriously. PS5 and Xbox Series X SSDs are significantly faster at loading scenes than the previous generation older hard drives, which would be in favor of the openworld sandbox that will be available in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
If you are familiar with the Avatar franchise, you will recognize Pandora’s vast forests, jungles and the like. Rich amounts of foliage have always been relatively difficult to process, which has to do with the large amount of objects that need to be rendered into the scene. This can often negatively affect frame rates and overall graphics quality, and we imagine that both the PS5 and Xbox Series X will likely still get some framedrops here and there as a result.
