The sequel to the movie James Cameronreleased simultaneously worldwide, thirteen years after the original, it grossed $434.5 million at the global box office.
Its budget has not been disclosed but various estimates place it at between $250 million and $400 million. Cameron himself recently assured that, to be profitable, he would need to surpass $2 billion in its global theatrical run.
The first chapter of ‘Avatar’, released in 2009, remains the highest-grossing film of all time, with $2.922 million raised worldwide, followed by ‘Avengers: Endgame’ (2.797 million) and ‘Titanic‘ (2.200), also directed by Cameron.
In Spain, ‘Avatar’ (2009) also holds the total historical podium (79 million euros)followed by ‘Eight Basque surnames‘ (2014, 55 million) and ‘The impossible‘ (2012, 42 million).
