Avast has bought a company focused on protecting digital identity

According to Avast CEO Ondřej Vlček, Evernym is a pioneer and leader in the field of personal identity. Together with the Everny team, Avast wants to bring new solutions to the market in terms of decentralized personal identity.

Evernym will be part of Avast’s digital identity division, which was recently led by Charlie Walton, who previously worked at Mastercard.

Avast has been operating on the market since 1988 and its shares are traded on the Prague and London stock exchanges. He is one of the pioneers in the field of computer security.

Provides security programs for computers and mobile devices. Its products are used by over 435 million users worldwide, largely free of charge.

“More than 60 percent of the world’s population now has access to the Internet, but we do not have adequate measures in place to enable these people to prove who they are online,” Vlcek said.

“As a result, identity theft, online fraud and account takeovers are growing rapidly, as is mass digital surveillance. Our vision for digital freedom is to enable people to manage and maintain control over their personal information so that they can communicate and conduct transactions securely and with confidence, ”he added.

Evernym was founded in 2013. Its technologies enable online identity verification. Thanks to the acquisition, Avast will be able to develop a model that will give users control over their personal data.
