Gustaf Unger has both broad and deep banking experience with several previous senior positions within, above all, SEB and Nordea. The focus has been on savings and investments through wealth management and private banking as well as pensions. He also has many years of experience in bank-related infrastructure regarding securities, as well as a few years from corporate finance. Gustaf’s roles have been both national and international.
For the past two years, Gustaf Unger has been one of the co-founders of a fintech platform focused on the commercial debt market. He has also been a board member of Nordnet AB, an assignment he is now leaving with immediate effect.
“I have followed Gustaf for many years. He has solid banking experience and expertise in savings and investments, and then also pensions, which is one of the many growth areas for Avanza. The fact that Gustaf also has a great interest in technology, which he used for technology and product development during outstanding parts of his career, I see as a big plus,” says Sven Hagströmer, chairman of the Avanza board.
Gustaf Unger is 50 years old with an engineering degree from KTH and an economics degree from Stockholm University. He also holds a PhD in financial mathematics from the ETH in Zurich.
“Avanza is a pioneer in savings and during its first 25 years has developed the market not only for its nearly 2 million customers but for all Swedish savers through accessibility, a wider offer and lower prices. I am very much looking forward to contributing to further strong development where Avanza continues to shape the future in this sector, always with the customers’ best interests in mind,” says Gustaf Unger, incoming CEO of Avanza.
“We are happy to now bring in Gustaf as CEO to continue developing Avanza with full force. Gustaf’s solid knowledge and great interest in the savings market and new technology together with his strategic way of thinking will lift Avanza to the next level. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank our acting CEO Gunnar Olsson, who together with the other employees at Avanza not only kept things going but also pushed the business forward during the past six months. I look forward with great confidence to Avanza, together with Gustaf, continuing to innovate and improve the savings market in the coming years”, continues Sven Hagströmer, Avanza’s chairman of the board.
Gustaf takes up his role as soon as the management review at the Financial Supervisory Authority is completed. Such approval is expected to be received during the second quarter of this year.
