Vienna (OTS) –

More than 2 million people of 182 different nationalities live in Vienna – making the Danube metropolis the fifth largest city in the EU. For every 100 Viennese there are 104 Viennese women. In addition to such “hard data” on the population, the city area and more, the newly published brochure “Vienna in Numbers 2024” also tells you that more cucumbers and aubergines are harvested in the capital of Austria than in the other eight federal states combined, and that Vienna has the lowest car density of all state capitals and federal states and, in addition to more than 57,000 dogs and 250 sheep, that there are around 9,500 ground squirrels in the urban jungle. “Vienna in Numbers” is published in German and English and consists of ten chapters on 24 pages.

City Councilor for Economic Affairs Peter Hanke: “‘Vienna in Numbers’ has shown for many years how our city’s population and economy are developing – especially our research area, which is one of the main places in Europe. The 23 area brochures recently published bring Viennese closer to interesting and curious details about their neighborhood.” The Donaustadt area is 93 times larger than the Josefstadt area, and the average age in the city is in 47 years, 8 years higher than the youngest district of Simmering. The regional folders are divided into six chapters and are available in German.

In addition, the publications on the business and research space have also been updated. 31% of national R&D spending takes place in Vienna; A quarter of Austria’s gross domestic product is generated in the federal capital, where a fifth of Austria’s population lives. The brochures “Business Situation 2024” and “Research and Development 2024” provide information on this and other data in a total of 48 infographics in five or three chapters and are available in German and English.
